The effort of Tammam Hassan in translating the western Works: A Study in linguistics and the traditional Arab thought works

Abstract

This research, as the title suggests, presents a focused descriptive study for the efforts made by
Tammam Hassan in translating what the western authors wrote in the modern linguistics as well as
the traditional Arab thought .He aims to get one purpose .The aim is to present a clear perspective
for these efforts ,define their dimensions ,reveal their perspectives and helps increase their
understanding and makes use of them in developing modern linguistic and non-linguistic Arab
thought. The plan used to fulfill this aim is based on two major points: 1. The recognition the efforts
made by Tammam in western linguistics. 2. The recognitionThe efforts made by Tammam in the
Arab tradition.
He reached the following conclusions: 1. Translation in the aforementioned domains has
constituted the major part of Tammam's efforts. 2. These efforts made by Tammam demonstrates
his keenness on choosing what really matters to develop the Arab thought and culture.3. These
translation works fit within the compound scientific nature of Tammam which combines the
knowledge western linguistics with the knowledge of Arab tradition. They are also compatible with
the innovative spirit of Tammam.
