Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to show how the science of linguistics arose, not as scientists understood it in ancient times, but rather its modern concept. Accordingly, it was possible for us to suffice - as Western scholars do - with a brief reference to what occurred in past ages of research into the secrets of languages. .
