The reality of speech therapy management of prosody in deaf children with cochlear implants in Algeria

Abstract

This study aims to investigate speech-language pathology (SLP) intervention with regard to prosody in deaf children who have received cochlear implants in Algeria. To achieve this goal, the descriptive method was adopted as a framework for data analysis and interpretation. The study sample consisted of 30 speech-language pathologists working in public health institutions and private practices distributed across various regions of the country. Data was collected through a questionnaire specifically designed for this study, which included five main axes : General Information, Prosody Rehabilitation Approach, Evaluation and Intervention in Prosody, Training and Knowledge, and Challenges and Recommendations.


The results of both quantitative and qualitative analyses revealed that speech-language pathologists pay attention to early intervention for deaf children with cochlear implants. However, prosody does not receive sufficient attention within the adopted therapeutic programs. The study's findings highlight the need to strengthen the training of professionals in this area and to develop intervention tools that take into account the prosodic features of the language.
